Olukoju Ayomide John

I am Olukoju Ayomide John, a passionate Engineering Geologist and researcher with a strong interest in foundation engineering, geotechnical engineering, and subsurface characterization. With a background in Applied Geology and over eight years of professional experience in the geotechnical field, I have developed extensive hands-on experience in geotechnical site investigation, soil and rock characterization, foundation assessment, and the interpretation of subsurface conditions for engineering projects. My professional journey has involved working on a wide range of projects, where I have gained practical experience with techniques such as Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), borehole investigation, soil sampling, geophysical investigation, and laboratory testing. These experiences have strengthened my interest in understanding how soil behaviour and geological conditions influence foundation performance and have motivated me to explore more scientific and innovative approaches to geotechnical engineering. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Foundation and Geotechnical Engineering. My academic and research interests are particularly focused on foundation behaviour, bearing capacity, settlement analysis, soil variability, CPT-based soil parameter estimation, and the application of numerical modelling to geotechnical problems. I am especially interested in bridging the gap between field investigation, laboratory data, empirical methods, and numerical approaches to develop more reliable solutions for foundation design and construction. My professional experience has also exposed me to the challenges associated with foundation development in complex and variable subsurface environments, particularly within the Nigerian geological setting. This has strengthened my desire to contribute to research that addresses real-world geotechnical problems and produces practical solutions that can improve the safety, reliability, and economy of infrastructure development. At the heart of my work is a continuous desire to learn, investigate, innovate, and contribute meaningful knowledge to the field of geotechnical engineering. I am passionate about transforming field data and engineering observations into useful scientific insights and improving the way subsurface information is interpreted and applied in foundation engineering. Through research, professional practice, collaboration, and continuous learning, I hope to contribute to the advancement of geotechnical engineering in Nigeria and the wider international engineering community.
